Want a Newborn Session…but you have questions, right???
Below is a list of frequently asked questions and tips compiled during my years as a newborn photographer.
When is the right time to book your newborn session?
It’s never too early to get on my calendar for your newborn session. I book only a few newborns per month to allow flexibility in terms of due dates versus actual birth dates. On occasion, I may have some last-minute openings but I hate to turn away babies if my schedule is already full.
How soon do you come in for your session once the baby arrives?
Since this is a newborn session, it’s important that I capture your baby in its newest form. Ideally, newborn sessions occur within the first 2-3 weeks of your baby’s life. They are still very sleepy and I am able to pose them in those curly, snuggled-up poses that everyone loves so much. You will receive a prep guide a few days before your session that lists some things to help you prepare yourself and your new baby for the session. I know that this time can be a bit overwhelming for new parents and that’s why I take all the guesswork out. You really just need to show up with your baby and their food (breast or bottle) and I will take care of the rest!
I’ve booked a session… now what??
Since babies have their own agendas and there’s rarely a way to predict their arrival, I ask that expectant mothers stay in regular communication with me throughout the remainder of their pregnancy. Moms regularly send messages letting me know if the pregnancy is still on track or if there’s any indication that the baby may make an early entrance into the world. This puts your baby’s session on my radar so I am able to plan accordingly. Plus, I get to know you a little more before your session takes place 🙂
How long will a session last?
A full newborn session lasts anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on the baby. I allow plenty of time for feeding and soothing during these sessions. All babies are different and all sessions are different so this is a rough estimate of how long you can expect to be at the studio on the day of your newborn session.
Do you supply the props and outfits for my baby’s session?
Absolutely!! The studio is filled with an ever-evolving stock of backdrops, blankets, wraps, buckets, headbands/bows, hats, outfits, etc to be used during your session. Everything offered in my studio has been proven to photograph beautifully… most of the options are handmade by talented designers who put time and effort into ensuring the item is perfect for your baby’s session.
Occasionally, clients ask to have sentimental items incorporated into their session. This is always welcome! We will work together to achieve the best results possible.
How long will it take to get my photos?
Your ordering appointment will take place within 1-2 weeks of the session. At that time, you will view your proofing gallery and decide on which images and products you love!
